Darrin Ervin

Lamar High School Darrin Ervin running back and receiver is one of the top recruits in the class of 2011.  A native Houstonian, at 6’0 and 190 pounds, start getting attention at Pershing Middle School, he played quarter back then and his eighth grade team had a great season.

Having played quarter back and wide receiver who knew a third position would be thrown his way, but as a true champ he accepted the challenge with strive after a fellow teammate was injured in the middle of this season, Coach Nolan decided to play Darrin in the position of running back.  When ask how do you do it, play three positions, he reply; “I put a lot of hard work and effort in what I do, I never take it for granted, I have a passion for this game and give a 110 percent in everything I do”.   He ended the season with 824 yards in rushing, 120 yards receiving, and 11 touchdowns.    

Darrin’s accolades don’t stop on the football field, he is also academically sound as well.  With a 3.6 GPA an on honor roll, he has proven you can be successful on and off the field.  His freshman year he was selected as an exchange student, traveled to Japan, “It was a great experience, getting to learn about another culture”, a student from Japan also had the same opportunity and spend a week in Houston with Darrin experiencing his culture and how his lives.

Academics will play a big role in his choice for college, with math being his favorite subject, he plans major in chemical engineering.  Darrin’s colleges of choice are; University of Texas, University of California, University of California in LA, and Ohio State, those are his choices, but who knows what the offers will be come press time next year.

In Houston we have a lot of great athletics, but it’s always rewarding to meet one that that has a great personality, smart, and athletic roll all into one.
